Nottingham Outlaws v NEAB – 12/03/2022: Saturday 12th March -

Published: 20 March, 2022 - 2:50 pm

Brett Delaney’s men finally got their season underway with anaway trip to Nottingham Outlaws. With all intentions of starting strong, the All Black’s found themselves on the back foot from the kick off, having to defend six sets back to back on their own line. Eventually, the home side managed to break the All Blacks resolve and get across the line, but failed to convert the extras.

New Earswick began to settle down and put their game plan into practice, with a strong showing from the pack, and well timed substitutions, they started to show their dominance. With some eye catching rugby on display, the All Black’s scored 24 unanswered points, with the pick of the tries being a crafty short side play, set up by half back Liam Gargan and full back Ewen Coverdale, and finished in the corner by Joe Harrison, who managed to bag a brace after great work from centre Tommy Hields.

New Earswick’s other tries coming from second row Jack Law and captain Sean Malarky, with all four conversions being slotted over by stand off Conor Calam.

Towards the end of the game, the ‘first game’ fatigue began to set in and Nottingham came back to make the final score 16-24 to the All Black’s .

This season has been dedicated to coach Delaney’s team mate and good friend, Rob Burrow. His fighting spirit and renowned ability to punch well above his weight was echoed by man of the match Steve Clarke, whose tireless efforts in defence set the platform for the All Black’s victory.
