YM Premier League: NEAB v East Hull ARLFC: Saturday 7th May -

Published: 8 May, 2022 - 11:24 pm
After a few weeks away, New Earswick played East Hull back at White Rose Avenue, on a sunny and warm afternoon.
The All Black’s focus this week was on a strong and controlled start to the game, and to improve on recent poor completion rates. And they certainly did that, taking the game to Hull with some tidy, well organised play and strong defensive sets.

The All Black’s seemed more intent on building pressure and playing for field position, which paid off when hooker Conor Iddon opened the scoring from close range.New Earswick continued in the same vein and controlled the game well. Some great individual play from half back Liam Gargan saw him grubber kick through the defensive line and race onto it to add to the score.

Another fantastic performance from prop forward Jack Stearman saw him power over the whitewash before halftime. East Hull managed to steady themselves and put together some neat play, using a variety of kicking options to turn the home side around and getting on the score sheet before half time.

The second half began with New Earswick losing some control moving forward and trying to force the play, but also managing to defend strongly. The All Black’s settled down in attack and put together some great play, resulting in a 60m sprint to the line from Conor Iddon, after some quick reaction play from man of the match and Captain, Sean Malarkey, pouncing on a loose ball.
After more strong, direct running from Stearman, he managed to slip the ball out of the tackle close to the line whilst carrying three players with him, to fullback Ewan Coverdale, who went over untouched.East Hull clawed a try back after a clever kick and a lucky bounce, which saw the ball and the player, evade the chasing New Earswick defence.Winger Dean Smith went over in the corner to make the game safe, after some slick handling from left to right and being fed by centre Ben Husband.

Half back Conor Calam was immaculate with the boot all afternoon, hitting six from six conversions and taking the final score to 36-12.
