Andrew Henderson Joins NEAB as Director of Rugby.
New Earswick All Blacks are delighted to announce that Andrew Henderson has agreed to join the club on a consultancy basis acting as our Director of Rugby.
We are happy to welcome Andrew to the club as he brings a wealth of knowledge across all levels from his rugby league career.
Andrew had a successful playing career with Castleford Tigers, Sheffield Eagles and London Broncos to name a few as well as representing his country Scotland.
After a successful playing career Andrew moved into coaching, beginning at London where he was named Coach of the Year in 2017, before joining Super League outfit Warrington Wolves ahead of the 2018 season as Assistant Coach to Steve Price. In his time here they reached the Super League grand final and Challenge cup final in 2018 before winning the Challenge cup final the following season in 2019. Andrew was also assistant coach for the Combined Nations All Stars team during this time, supporting Tim Sheens in their 2021 victory over England before assisting Ellery Hanley in 2022.
He then joined West Yorkshire outfit Keighley Cougars as a Head of Rugby for the 2022 season which saw him involved with rugby operations both on and off the field, and was part of the success story that saw Keighley have an ‘invincible’ season being undefeated in League One and promoted to the Championship.
Andrew returned to coaching in 2023 after being announced Head Coach for York Knights where he took them to play off football in his first season earning a nomination for coach of the year. Earlier this year Andrew moved into the position of Head of Rugby operations and development at York RLFC and continues in that role today.
For NEAB, Andrew’s role will see him assist in creating a shared club philosophy from juniors to seniors, advise on club operations, support coach development at all age groups, and support the clubs strategic plan to aid future growth.
Andrew said, “The club reached out to me recently to discuss a potential role focused on supporting, improving and developing areas within the club. I was impressed by the honest appraisal from the board, along with the energy, enthusiasm and ambition of the club. From my initial stand point, the club has potential to progress along with some exciting plans for the future which I hope they can see through. The role is on a consultancy basis and will fit around my full time role with York RLFC which will always take precedence. Hopefully during my time with NEAB, I can add some value by making small improvements in the areas required, so the club can improve, be successful and ultimately support a stronger community game in York.”
NEAB Chairman Liam Haxby said of the appointment, “It is amazing to have someone like Andrew Henderson with a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the game wanting to help us as a club to improve and grow. The club is in the process of putting together new ideas and plans, with Andrew being able to assess these and advise on how best to progress them in order to take NEAB forward. We are really excited that Andrew has accepted our offer of support and we look forward to what the future holds.”
